Of course, it's always possible that he just wants to look cool and growl. At least he's not like my son was at this age when he declared, "I want to go as Robin, partner of Batman. You know, the wonder boy." He didn't watch Batman. He didn't know diddly except his friends had declared Robin the "it" costume that year. But "partner of Batman", really? REALLY?
